BenKalu Network Joins Campaign to Avert Protests in Nigeria, Sensitizes Youths on Patriotism

The BenKalu Intellectuals Network (BIN), a think tank of young intellectuals, has launched a nationwide campaign to de-escalate the growing feeling of disunity, hatred, and animosity in the country.

In a statement signed by its intellectual leader, Comrade Benedict Aguele, the group expressed commitment to building honest and patriotic leaders based on the philosophy of its mentor, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu.

While admitting that frustrations are high, and emotions are running deep due to the economic hardship, Aguele added that protests and violence are not the solution. 

The group, therefore, said it is committed to supporting the laudable reforms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration which are geared towards building a more prosperous and equitable society. 

The BenKalu Network said it has met with over 1,000 groups in the last one week and all have assured that it will not protest against the administration. 

Aguele said rather, the groups will work closely with leaders of thoughts across board to see to the implementation of laudable reforms.

"As a network of young thinkers, we recognize the importance of peace and progress in achieving our collective goals," Aguele said. 

"We have embarked on a mission to sensitize young Nigerians on the need to prioritize patriotism and national unity above personal interests.

"Our methods include social media campaigns, workshops, seminars, and community outreach programs.

"In light of the current economic challenges facing our nation, we understand that frustrations are high, and emotions are running deep.

"However, we strongly believe that protests and violence are not the solutions to our problems. Instead, we should channel our energies towards constructive engagement, dialogue, and collaboration with the government."

The group, therefore, urged all Nigerians, especially the youth, to support the government and refrain from participating in any form of protest.

Aguele added: "Let us work together to build a more prosperous and peaceful Nigeria.

"Patriotism is the foundation of our campaign, as we believe that love for our country should be the guiding principle of our actions.

"This means that every decision we make and every step we take should be motivated by a desire to promote the welfare and prosperity of Nigeria and its people.

"Unity is the backbone of our campaign, as we recognize that our diversity is our strength and that together, we can achieve greatness.

"We believe that our differences are what make us unique and strong and that by embracing and celebrating our diversity, we can build a more inclusive and equitable society.

"Dialogue is the engine of our campaign, as we advocate for constructive engagement and dialogue as the best means of resolving conflicts.

"We believe that by talking to each other, listening to each other's perspectives, and working together, we can find solutions to even the most seemingly intractable problems.

"Progress is the goal of our campaign, as we are committed to building a better future for ourselves and generations to come.

The birthed of REMOVOICE Newspapers on July 27, 1999 wasn't by accidence but with intention to commemorate the 5th years memorial celebration of Dr,  Tai Solarin the visioner of Mayflower School, Ikenne -Remo, Ogun State in the Southern part of Nigeria.

The visionary intention of the newspaper was principally to be part of the communication network and resources for the enthronement and entrenchment of Nigerian Democracy.

With human rights activism and sociological studies background of the Publisher and some other supporters in different disciplines, the publication remained steadfast, committed and proactive in different community programmes.

The newspaper was launched on 2002 at Hotel De Eskay, along Sagamu ---Benin Expressway, Sagamu--Remo.

The owner of the hotel, Asiwaju Solomon Kayode Onafowokan, the Asiwaju of Remo Kingdom and the Chairman, Coleman Wires and Cables Limited was the Chief Launcher of the occasion while Late Ambassador Segun Olusola, the Chairman /Founder of African Refugee Foundation Ajibulu Moniya Art Gallery was the Chairman of the historic day.

 Some sterling qualities of REMO people such as dynamism,largeness, wisdom, experience education, enterprise,  sense of leadership and accommodation pose a great task  to the publication  with enormous expectations especially when the Founder of The Nigerian Tribune Newspaper, Chief Obafemi Awolowo was also from the federation of Remoland.

The high expectations of people and  advertisers in  REMOVOICE was very great because of high expectation to be  thorough and expected to see Tribune Newspaper as  our

 frontrunner, inspirator and pathfinder for us to maintain credible, trustworthy and proven professional etiquette and ethics of  the publishing enterprise.

The unwavering commitment of engaging  in various students leadership programmes in various schools in Remoland earned the publication the opportunity to be the only community newspaper and Tribune Newspaper as the national newspapers represented Nigeria in the 1st African

 Anti--Malaria Media Reporting Workshop in November 2006 in Accra, Ghana.

16 African countries represented in the workshop with a mandate after the programme to effectively, efficiently, professionally educate various countries on the dangers, prevention and treatment of malaria that was prevalent then in various African countries.

 Professor Ahmed.A. Adedeji who  graduated in Pharmacology from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye and a resident of Ikenne was then undergoing his doctorial degree on Malaria in Africa as a lecturer in the Olabisi Onabanjo University facilitated the inclusion of 

 the newspaper in the locality for his belief in the ideals of the publication  with its style of news reportage and concern on many other tasks that would advance the  essence of human lives with possible programmes.

 

 In 2009/2010, REMOVOICE Newspaper initiated REMOVOICE PRESS CLUB. as a result of a public lecture delivered by the Editor-in-chief during a Prees Week of Mayflower School, Ikenne facilitated  by Mr. Tetteh a Ghanian   and   Co-- ordinator of the Press Week.

 The programme stimulated the newspaper management on the need of various schools  to have Press Club or to resuscitate those that were moribund towards guiding  the SS 1-3  on the rudiments of communication in their future careers

Nigerians In UK Accuse Minister of Interior Bunmi Ojo Of Unwholesome Practice Over Passport Acquisition

Nigerians in the UK have been voicing their displeasure over the newly launched fast tracking device in the acquisition of passport by the Honorable Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo which they claim is exploitative.

It is alleged that the officials of Nigeria House in that part of Europe has through a communique, introduced a mandatory fee of over three hundred dollars to be paid in the course of their passport applications. 

Many Nigerians in the UK woke up to what they termed as another selective self-serving scheme when they realized that, that high fee has put in place in the procurement of their international passport.

According to them, there wouldn’t have been any worry, if the acquisition of passports became easy like the minister promised when he was appointed which many have commended both in Nigeria and other countries including the United Kingdom.

Surprisingly, getting a passport in the UK takes up to four months or more which in a way forces people to queue massively behind the new scheme of paying for fast tracking the process.

What many displeased Nigerians are saying is that they are not happy with the minister who could have made the process seamless instead of the newly introduced fast tracking method. Moreover, they are alleging that the company is saddled with the collection of the monies of the new scheme, NEW NETWORK SOLUTIONS, may be a proxy for the leadership of the ministry. 

Several questions have been directed to DSI Bashir Aminu, the Attache at the Nigeria High Commission in the UK, but he has refused to give cogent reasons for the delay in acquisition and the new scheme.

The Attache, who is fondly called ‘In Coming’ by many in the Nigerian House because of his ambition to be Comptroller General of Immigration in Nigeria we gathered was hailed by many for clearing passport backlogs , but they could not understand why they are now creating the problem of artificial scarcity, which they feel could be for their gain.

They are however calling on the good government of President Bola Tinubu to look into the matter before it proceeds from bad to worse .
